Meetings
Meetings: Occur the 2nd Tuesday of the month from September to June. Except for June, which is our annual banquet, The doors open at our meeting site at 7PM. Over the next 30 minutes members bring in Orchids from their collections and set them up on tables at the side of the hall. From 7:30-8:00, while these orchids are being judged by a team of judges, there are soft drinks, coffee, snacks and plenty of socializing. It is a great time to ask members about any specific questions you might have about orchid culture or review materials from our extensive library. At 8:00, we have a short business meeting and by 8:10 we introduce our speaker. The speaker talks for about 45-50 minutes and then we have a short question and answer session. From 9:00 to 9:20 we review the show table, announce our raffle winners as well as hand out any door prizes. We almost always have great door prizes!! Please come and join us
This Month’s TOPIC: Orchid Trekking- Contrasting Northern and Southern Hemispheres
Speaker: Duane Erdmann
WHEN: September 14, 2010
Duane has been growing orchids for 35 years, so you may be able to appreciate why Duane goes outside of his plant room and greenhouse to find more hobby excitement. Duane has traveled in many of the countries in our hemisphere looking for and photographing orchids. He and Judy started with Paphs, moved though Dendrobiums, and now are focusing on Restrepia , Zootrophion, and Scaphosepalum, but they haven’t given up the many other genera along the way. Within the last years Duane added North American native orchids to his photo efforts. He’ll share the differences in looking for and photographing orchids in the north and the south … in a somewhat light-hearted way.Duane and Judy Erdmann have been members of the DOS for over 20 years.
